Job Summary

The Scottish Government is offering an exciting opportunity for Graduate Civil Engineers to join Transport Scotland’s Graduate Scheme. This Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) accredited program provides structured training to support graduates in achieving Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

The scheme includes internal rotations within Transport Scotland and external secondments with design consultancies and construction firms, offering a well-rounded experience in planning, engineering, and project management. Graduates will receive hands-on experience in major national infrastructure projects while benefiting from structured development and professional mentoring.

Successful candidates will enter a Training Agreement with Transport Scotland, ensuring their professional development aligns with ICE membership requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Work on infrastructure projects and oversee technical aspects
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with teams, clients, and government departments
  • Technical Challenges: Assist in solving engineering issues in real-world projects
  • Procurement of Services: Support procurement processes for contractors and consultants
  • Ministerial Support: Provide technical advice and reports for Scottish Government Ministers

Essential Qualifications & Skills

Education Requirements:

  • MEng in Civil Engineering (accredited by the Engineering Council)
    OR
  • BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering + MSc in a related subject (both accredited by the Engineering Council)

Technical/Professional Skills:

  • Developing Science & Engineering Capability: Apply best practices in engineering work
  • Technical Oversight & Management: Plan and manage technical aspects of projects
