Requirements

  • Nationally Accredited Clinical Coder Qualification (ACC)
  • Substantial experience in clinical coding across specialties
  • Strong anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology knowledge
  • Great with people – able to explain coding complexities clearly
  • Microsoft Office skills – confident with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience in auditing, mentoring, and writing detailed reports
  • Analytical mind – problem-solving on errors and data standards
  • Desirable: PRINCE2 or similar project experience

About the Role

This isn’t just about inputting data—it’s about making sense of it. The Clinical Coding Business Analyst sits at the heart of the Trust’s data quality team, helping translate patient records into structured, meaningful insights. From supporting audits to refining coding standards and improving the Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratio (SHMI), they’ll rely on your expertise. You’ll navigate multiple IT systems daily, liaise across departments, and help maintain the accuracy and credibility of every coded entry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate clinical coding across all hospital specialties
  • Monitor and support coding standards through peer review
  • Improve SHMI by auditing deceased patient data
  • Use and support multiple data systems and dashboards
  • Validate and correct complex errors flagged by recipient systems
  • Liaise with multi-disciplinary teams to clarify coding data
  • Uphold data quality, clinical governance, and reporting standards
