Requirements

  • BSc in a Data, Mathematical or Medically related field (Essential)
  • MSc in a Data, Mathematical or Medically related field (Essential)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a data-related field
  • Strong skills in SQL and Python, including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or LLM frameworks
  • Experience developing and deploying data pipelines and AI models
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies, Docker, or PySpark is desirable
  • Understanding of NHS data governance, ethical standards, and security frameworks
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills

About the Role

The Clinical Data Engineer plays a pivotal role in driving the Health Data Institute’s mission to use data and AI for better healthcare outcomes. Working closely with the Principal Data Scientist and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll design and operationalise robust data solutions that power analytics, research, and clinical innovation.

You’ll build and maintain scalable data pipelines, develop predictive models, and translate insights into actions that enhance patient care and operational efficiency. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll shape the Trust’s digital transformation, embed best practices in data science, and influence strategy through data-driven recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop secure, scalable data engineering and AI solutions that support analytics and research
  • Build automated data pipelines to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and data accessibility across the Trust
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to expand the Secure Data Environment and Federated Data Platform
  • Develop predictive and prescriptive models that improve patient outcomes and operational decision-making
  • Guide stakeholders through data insights, translating complex findings into actionable recommendations
  • Support workshops and training sessions to build data literacy and encourage innovation within the organisation
