Requirements
- Evidence of good numeracy and literacy skills through the UHNM Trust L1 assessment
- Effective communication skills with the ability to report patient changes clearly
- Team player who shows reliability and initiative
- Desirable: NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in care, or GCSE English and Maths (grade C/4 or above)
- Desirable: Previous care environment experience
Salary Details
Band 2 position with a fixed annual salary of £24,465 on a permanent part-time basis.
About the Role
As a Clinical Support Worker in the Children’s Critical Care Unit (CICU), you’ll work closely with the nursing team to support young patients and their families. Expect each day to bring something meaningful – from preparing family rooms and supporting patient admissions to ensuring the ward runs smoothly and safely. You’ll manage practical tasks like daily equipment checks, providing meals for breastfeeding mothers, escorting patients between departments and assisting with turns and care when needed.
Shifts run from 07:15 to 19:45, including some night shifts from 19:15 to 07:45, across Monday to Sunday. This role suits someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and finds purpose in helping others.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain clean, safe and well-stocked clinical and family areas to support infection control
- Assist the nursing team with patient admissions, discharges and basic care routines
- Carry out regular equipment and safety checks to ensure readiness for clinical use
- Offer emotional and practical support to families throughout their stay
- Coordinate supplies and perform administrative tasks when required
- Uphold UHNM values of compassion, respect and teamwork in every interaction
