Job Overview

This role involves assisting the team in maintaining a well-stocked, tidy, and welcoming environment for patients. Assigned tasks will include direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, relieving nurses of non-clinical duties, and rotating through all clinical areas as required to meet service needs. Shifts cover a 24-hour period from Monday 07:30 to Saturday 14:00.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide care under the supervision of registered nurses as an effective team member, ensuring care meets agreed standards.
  • Prepare and check transfer trolleys, including oxygen, suction, resuscitation equipment, and linen. Replace these items as required.
  • Check and change oxygen/CO2 cylinders on patient trolleys.
  • Transfer patients between clinical areas and report any issues to the relevant nurse.
  • Assist in the safe movement and positioning of patients.

Working for the Organisation

An opportunity is available to join the Elective Centre team, which provides high standards of care to adult patients undergoing surgery or procedures. Services include Orthopaedics, General and Breast Surgery, Vascular, ENT, Oral and Minor Plastic Surgery, Urology, and Chronic Pain.

The unit comprises 46 beds with facilities for overnight stays for surgical and medical patients. It operates from 07:30 Monday to 14:00 Saturday, offering a variety of shifts, including days, twilight, nights, and weekends.

This role requires good health due to the physical demands of the environment, flexibility, and excellent communication skills. An induction program, mentorship, and in-house training will be provided. NHS uniforms and access to the NHS pension scheme are included.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

  • Communicate with patients and colleagues via telephone, face-to-face, in writing, or electronically to contribute to the department’s efficient running.
  • Cooperate with multi-disciplinary team members and report patient information to relevant staff.
  • Attend mandatory training and participate in performance reviews to achieve objectives.
  • Contribute to service development and participate in clinical audits, trials, and research.
  • Adhere to safety policies and report hazards, defects, accidents, or untoward incidents promptly, ensuring appropriate documentation is completed.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and the rights of patients, relatives, and colleagues.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to meet service needs.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • GCSE Maths and English Level 5 or equivalent.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Responsibility for mandatory training compliance.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of Cerner systems.
  • Previous experience in a care setting.
  • Willingness to pursue further study.

Additional Information

  • The advertised salary is for full-time hours. Part-time roles will have a pro-rata salary.
