Requirements

  • Education: An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology, or extensive Band 3 experience with NVQ Level 3 in Health Care.
  • Skills: Strong communication, empathy, and ability to manage risk and emotional intensity.
  • Knowledge: Experience working with people with mental health problems or disabilities.
  • Additional: GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent); willingness to complete NVQ if not already held.

Salary Details

The salary range is £33,094 to £36,195 per annum, aligned with NHS Band 4.

About the Role

As a Crisis Support Worker, you’ll provide overnight crisis care to adults across five boroughs—Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton, Kingston, and Richmond. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary team that collaborates with daytime HTTs, emergency departments, and the Mental Health Crisis Line.

Your nights will focus on real human connection—listening, assessing, and acting when it matters most. You’ll visit people at home, offer practical and emotional support, and help ensure safety and recovery-focused outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and emotional support during mental health crises at night.
  • Support qualified practitioners in assessments, interventions, and care planning.
  • Conduct home visits, welfare checks, and assist in risk management.
  • Engage with families and carers to promote understanding and reassurance.
  • Keep accurate, timely records using electronic systems like RIO.
  • Collaborate with other crisis and liaison teams to ensure continuity of care.
