Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Strong background in Cyber Security, including C|EH, CISSP, CISA, or ITIL certification.
  • Experience managing complex IT environments, ideally in a public sector or NHS setting.
  • Proven ability to lead cyber strategy and manage Governance, Risk, and Compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with vulnerability testing, pen testing, and enterprise-level security systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK for occasional site visits.

About the Role

As a Cyber Security Manager, you’ll lead the design, delivery, and ongoing development of The Health Informatics Service’s Cyber and IT Security (CITS) function. Your mission is to safeguard digital systems across hospitals, clinics, and partner organisations while driving innovation in cybersecurity governance and education.

You’ll collaborate with senior technical managers to implement national and local security policies, from ISO27001:2013 and Cyber Essentials Plus to GDPR and NIS Regulation. You’ll guide teams, run workshops, and oversee risk assessments that keep NHS systems secure and compliant.

This role calls for someone who enjoys balancing technical depth with leadership impact. You’ll be influencing change, building cyber awareness, and ensuring systems resilience across one of the most vital public service sectors in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of the Cyber and IT Security strategy to strengthen digital resilience.
  • Direct the implementation of the Governance, Risk, and Compliance framework for NHS digital systems.
  • Stay informed on emerging threats and create response strategies that minimise exposure.
  • Deliver awareness training across teams to improve cyber literacy and reduce human risk factors.
  • Oversee vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and compliance audits.
  • Guide research and implementation of new tools and protocols to maintain security excellence.
