Requirements
- Got a 2:1 or above in Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or equivalent
- At least 2 years’ experience working with children and young people
- Hands-on exposure to ASD and Learning Disabilities in real-world settings
- Some background in health or education supporting neurodivergent youth
- Strong report writing and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable with risk assessments and managing sensitive cases
- Familiar with NICE guidance for ASD and LD assessments
- Own transport essential for university attendance and local travel
Salary Details
You’ll earn between £38,682 and £46,580 a year depending on experience. This Band 6 role includes full benefits under the Agenda for Change scheme.
About the Role
This is your chance to blend academic learning with clinical experience in a role that really counts. As a CYP-IAPT Trainee specialising in Autism Spectrum Disorder and Learning Disabilities, you’ll study part-time while working hands-on in Dorset CAMHs. Three days a week, you’ll be in service, supporting young people with neurodevelopmental differences and co-occurring mental health challenges. The other two days? You’ll be developing your skills through a diploma programme with the University of Exeter.
Expect every week to challenge your clinical instincts and deepen your compassion. You won’t just assess or refer. You’ll build therapeutic relationships, help shape treatment pathways, and empower families navigating complex systems. It’s not just another training placement. It’s a launchpad for a career where you’ll make an immediate and lasting difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess young people for suitability for evidence-based interventions
- Identify complex cases and work with supervisors on next steps
- Adapt therapeutic approaches for neurodivergent children and families
- Refer appropriately and communicate clearly with referrers
- Develop strong collaborative relationships across clinical teams
- Attend training at Exeter University while balancing live caseloads
- Keep thorough, professional clinical records and reports
