Job Summary

The Welsh Parliament is seeking a Data Analyst to work in Senedd Research. This role focuses on enhancing research outputs through data visualization, making complex statistical and numerical information more accessible and engaging through infographics, maps, and interactive tools.

The successful candidate will work within the Library and Digital Team, collaborating with specialists in data analysis, data science, mapping, publishing, information management, and library services. Key responsibilities include supporting Senedd Members by translating complex data into clear and meaningful visual formats and contributing to digital transformation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality data visualizations, including infographics and maps, to communicate complex information to non-specialist audiences.
  • Independently develop skills in Excel, data science, and mapping software to analyze and present data effectively.
  • Respond to Senedd Members’ enquiries related to constituency work, plenary sessions, or committee business.
  • Work across teams to promote and develop data visualization techniques, providing research support as needed.
  • Enhance digital and print outputs using visualization techniques such as dashboards and interactive tools.
  • Develop internet and intranet pages to make research content more accessible.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other legislatures, academics, and external stakeholders in the field of data visualization.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria
  • Knowledge & Experience: Experience in interpreting statistical information and producing visual formats (infographics, maps, dashboards). Proficiency in MS Excel for data manipulation and visualization.
  • Research Skills: Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to critically review and summarize diverse sources of information.
  • Political Sensitivity: Sound judgment to provide impartial and politically sensitive research outputs for Members of the Senedd.
Desirable Criteria
  • Digital Skills: Experience with Adobe InDesign for visual design and data presentation.
  • GIS & Programming: Familiarity with GIS and mapping software (ArcGIS) and ability to learn Python or JavaScript for data analysis.
Welsh Language Requirement
  • Courtesy Level Welsh:
  • Ability to pronounce Welsh names and greet people bilingually.
  • Understand basic expressions and short texts.
  • Interpret content using available technology.
