Job Summary

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is seeking a Data Process Engineer to join the Performance & Informatics (P&I) department, the largest of the Trust’s corporate services. The P&I team supports operational delivery by managing Business Intelligence, Information Systems Development, Data Quality, Cancer Services, Clinical Coding, and Analytical Development.

The successful candidate will contribute to innovative national-level projects, including health inequality and waiting list management. The department has received national recognition for its work on the Health Equity and the Right to Treatment (HEARTT) tool, which won the 2022 Health Service Journal Award for Innovation and Improvement in Reducing Healthcare Inequalities.

This role offers the opportunity to work with strategic partners like IBM and Celonis and engage in data mining and analytics to support decision-making and transformation strategies.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage and complete projects to meet deadlines and organisational goals.
  • Represent the organisation in external partnerships and promote data mining initiatives internally.
  • Support Trust-wide reporting routines, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Identify and highlight data quality issues, providing solutions to improve completeness and interpretation.
  • Initiate and provide information analyses to support service delivery and transformation programmes.
  • Define Trust-wide reporting mechanisms and provide expert advice on information management.
  • Develop and enhance information reporting systems in compliance with national data requirements.
  • Use SQL Server, MS Excel, Access, and Power BI to perform advanced data analysis, predictive modelling, and scenario testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within the Analytical Development team to manage projects involving data interrogation and data mining.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to support operational and transformation strategies.
  • Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress and operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and streamline reporting systems.
  • Use benchmarking tools such as Telstra Health and Model Hospital to identify areas for service improvement.
  • Participate in local and national audits, ensuring timely and accurate data availability.
  • Address data inconsistencies and quality issues, identifying causes and implementing corrective solutions.
  • Work with the Information System Development team to maintain timely, accurate, and reliable data sources.
  • Ensure compliance with Information Governance and Data Protection regulations.
  • Attend Performance and Informatics meetings and contribute to Trust-wide initiatives.
  • Provide cross-team support within the P&I department as needed.

Essential Requirements

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience managing data-driven projects and working with large datasets.
  • Expertise in data mining, predictive analytics, and business intelligence reporting.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server, MS Excel, MS Access, and Power BI.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
