Requirements
- Completed HEE commissioned EMHP or IAPT CWP postgraduate diploma
- Previous experience delivering Guided Self Help to children or families
- Comfortable working in both urban and rural school settings
- Able to assess and manage mild to moderate mental health needs
- Strong communicator with families, schools and care networks
- Confident delivering psychoeducation in a group or 1:1 setting
- Committed to inclusion and adapting support for English as an Additional Language learners
Salary Details
Band 5 NHS salary ranging from £28,407 to £34,581 annually, based on experience and qualifications
About the Role
This is more than a clinical role, it’s a community movement. As an Education Mental Health Practitioner, you’ll join an experienced, multidisciplinary CAMHS team working across three areas with distinct identities. Luton is vibrant and diverse, while Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard face unique rural needs. Every school you visit, every young person you help, every conversation you start will feed into a bigger vision of whole-school wellbeing.
You’ll use Guided Self Help techniques to tackle low mood, anxiety and behaviour issues. You’ll also be shaping how mental health is understood in school corridors and classrooms, making sure no one falls through the cracks. It’s early intervention at its most powerful, backed by colleagues who’ve got your back.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver low-intensity CBT interventions to young people and families across education settings
- Embed mental health awareness through group sessions, parent work and teacher support
- Support school-wide mental health strategies as part of a whole-school approach
- Identify children who need more specialist care and coordinate referrals
- Work creatively and flexibly within diverse communities and school cultures
- Prioritise safeguarding and escalate concerns quickly and effectively
- Maintain accurate records, report progress and contribute to care plans
