Requirements

  • Strong grasp of basic literacy and numeracy, minimum Level 2
  • Commitment to the academic demands of formal training
  • Confidence learning through various methods and tools
  • Familiarity with child development or mental health through study or experience
  • Excellent time management and emotional resilience
  • Able to travel between educational sites across Worcestershire and Herefordshire

Salary Details

This training role starts at Band 4, offering 27,485 to 30,162 per year, increasing upon qualification.

About the Role

This role is all about making early interventions count. As an Education Mental Health Support Worker Trainee, you’ll help children and young people aged 5 to 18 tackle life’s mental health struggles early, right inside their schools.

You’ll be trained in delivering low intensity CBT interventions, support school staff to spot mental health issues, and work alongside families to co-create care plans. It’s a hands-on role that mixes study, teamwork, and real-world change. And the best part? If you finish the training and register with the governing body, you’ll shift into a permanent Band 5 role with greater responsibility and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver CBT-based support in schools under clinical supervision
  • Assess mental health risks and support safe care planning
  • Collaborate with parents, carers, and school staff on intervention plans
  • Keep detailed records to guide progress and decision-making
  • Participate in regular team meetings and peer reviews
  • Balance training demands while contributing to real care outcomes
