Requirements
- NVQ Level 4 or Foundation Degree in a relevant subject or proven equivalent experience
- Experience supporting children, young people, and families in emotional or crisis situations
- Strong understanding of safeguarding practices and family dynamics
- Excellent verbal and written communication with people of all ages
- Confident in using a range of communication styles, including non-verbal approaches
- Emotionally resilient, calm under pressure, and empathetic by nature
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends when needed
Salary Details
This is a Band 4 role offering between 27,485 and 30,162 GBP annually, aligned with NHS Agenda for Change pay structures.
About the Role
This isn’t just a liaison role, it’s about standing in the gap when young people and their families are most vulnerable. As a Family Liaison Youth Worker, you’ll work side by side with the Paediatric Crisis Lead Nurse to deliver emotional and practical support to children and young people facing mental health challenges.
Whether it’s helping them build resilience, connect with services, or just be heard in the right way, you’ll be a vital part of their journey to recovery. Working across the acute hospital setting, you’ll help bridge gaps between families, clinical teams, and external support services.

Key Responsibilities
- Support CYP (Children and Young People) in emotional distress while keeping their families engaged and informed
- Build trust-based relationships with service users and act as a point of consistency
- Collaborate with paediatric nurses, mental health leads, and external agencies to create safe care plans
- Promote emotional wellbeing and early intervention strategies
- Safeguard CYP in line with legal frameworks and internal protocols
- Document and communicate observations effectively to multidisciplinary teams
- Stay informed on support services, thrive models, and trauma-informed practice to guide your approach
