About the Role:

The Fire Safety Manager plays a crucial role in safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors across The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust’s facilities. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead fire safety initiatives in a complex healthcare environment, ensuring compliance with regulations while contributing to the trust’s mission of delivering outstanding care.

As the trust’s lead on all fire safety matters, you’ll be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive fire safety strategies, policies, and procedures. You’ll work closely with various departments and external partners to create a culture of safety awareness and preparedness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead a fire safety management system across the organization
  • Develop fire safety strategies, guidance, and codes of practice
  • Conduct fire risk assessments and create action plans
  • Deliver fire safety training and organize fire drills
  • Investigate fire incidents and produce comprehensive reports
  • Manage the 24-hour emergency Fire Response Team
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on fire safety matters
  • Ensure compliance with current fire legislation and NHS guidelines
  • Advise on fire safety aspects of construction and renovation projects

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience in fire safety
  • Qualification in fire safety (e.g., NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management)
  • Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers or relevant professional body
  • Current CFPA Diploma in Fire Prevention
  • Extensive experience in fire safety management, preferably in healthcare settings
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of fire safety legislation and risk assessment techniques
  • Experience with healthcare-specific fire safety guidelines (e.g., HTM 05 series)

Salary Details:
The role offers a competitive salary range of £53,755 to £60,504 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This falls within Band 8a of the NHS Agenda for Change pay scale, reflecting the senior nature of the position and its responsibilities.
