Requirements

  • City & Guilds, BTEC, or NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Technology or equivalent.
  • Certification or manufacturer accreditation in Mercedes, Renault, or similar.
  • Experience maintaining, repairing, and servicing a wide range of vehicles, including light commercial and heavy goods types.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic and electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and MOT preparation standards.
  • Full UK driving licence (covering up to 7.5 GVW and Class C1/D1 vehicles).
  • Ability to diagnose faults, solve problems, and work independently or in a team.
  • Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.

Salary Details

The role is offered at Band 4, paying between £27,898 and £30,615 per annum under the NHS Agenda for Change scheme. All new starters begin at the band minimum, with the opportunity to progress as experience grows.

About the Role

As a Fleet Technician, you’ll ensure that ambulances and other service vehicles are maintained to the highest standards. You’ll handle routine servicing, emergency repairs, and safety inspections, using modern diagnostic tools to pinpoint faults quickly and accurately.

Every repair you complete supports frontline crews to respond faster and safer, helping to protect lives across Wales. You’ll also service and repair specialist ambulance equipment such as stretchers, heaters, ramps, and electrical systems, ensuring each vehicle is fully equipped and compliant.

This is a hands-on, high-responsibility role where precision, reliability, and pride in your craft truly matter. You’ll work closely with a skilled team, receive ongoing manufacturer training, and contribute to a service that makes a real difference every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out vehicle servicing, repairs, and maintenance in line with manufacturer and Trust standards to ensure reliability and compliance.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain and repair specialist ambulance equipment including stretchers, ramps, and electrical systems to guarantee patient safety.
  • Ensure all work is recorded accurately and complies with audit and MOT specifications.
  • Collaborate with workshop teams and supervisors to plan daily tasks efficiently and meet operational needs.
  • Keep up to date with vehicle technology and safety regulations through ongoing training and development.
