Requirements
- Experience as a Care Support Worker or equivalent in health or social care
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Confidence working within a team and supporting colleagues
- Basic IT and organisational skills to keep tasks on track
- Commitment to professional development and continuous learning
- NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or Level 3 Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience
- Care Certificate completed or in progress
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade D-G or equivalent
Experience in stoma care, venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs, and wound care is desirable, but training will be provided if you’re keen to develop these skills.

This is a Band 3 Agenda for Change role with a salary between £24,937 and £26,598 per annum, depending on experience.
About the Role
As a Health Care Assistant on the Intestinal Failure Unit at Salford, you’ll be part of a highly specialised team caring for patients with complex nutritional needs. These patients often require long hospital stays, and your role will be central to helping them maintain comfort, dignity, and wellbeing.
Day to day, you’ll support with hygiene, mobility, wound care, and clinical observations. You’ll also have the chance to develop specialist skills in venepuncture, cannulation, and ECGs. It’s hands-on work that blends technical skill with compassion, and it makes a tangible difference for patients who rely on life-sustaining treatment.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with patient hygiene and mobility to improve daily comfort
- Carry out wound care and observations to support safe recovery
- Record blood sugars and ECGs to provide accurate clinical data
- Support stoma care and nutritional management where needed
- Work alongside nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver seamless care
- Take part in early, late, long day, and occasional night shifts to meet patient needs
