Job Overview
The Integrated Community Paediatric Service (ICPS) seeks enthusiastic and compassionate Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) to support the Children’s Care Package Service. This role involves providing holistic care to children and young people with complex health needs across various settings, including home, school, social activities, hospital, and hospice environments.
A comprehensive 6-week induction and competency-based training will be provided. Upon completion, you will deliver care both independently as a lone worker and as part of a team, under the indirect supervision of registered nurses.
Main Duties
- Partner with families and professionals to deliver holistic care.
- Follow care plans provided by registered children’s nurses for children with complex health needs, some of whom may have life-limiting conditions.
- Undertake clinical skills training for tasks such as mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy feeding, oxygen therapy, suctioning, and medication administration.
- Deliver personal care, continence management, and mobility assistance while adhering to infection control and safe moving practices.
- Communicate effectively with team leaders, nurses, and families to ensure quality care and involve families in decision-making.
- Escalate concerns about the child’s health to registered staff or parents as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care or Education.
- GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Evidence of further study in health and social care.
Essential Experience:
- Experience in health or childcare settings, including working with children with complex needs.
Desirable Experience:
- NHS background experience.
Skills and Attributes
Essential Skills:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow care plans and demonstrate clinical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Computer literacy.
- Awareness of child protection issues.
Other Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence and ability to travel independently within Bolton.
- Flexibility to provide care across a 24-hour period as per service needs.
