Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Health Care Support Worker will assist the clinical team by preparing areas for patient care and providing basic support to patients. Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and maintaining clinical spaces, including cleaning and restocking equipment.
  • Supporting patients with basic care needs, such as nutrition and personal assistance.
  • Communicating with patients and their families, ensuring a compassionate and supportive approach.

This role demands enthusiasm, reliability, and the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a dynamic team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Care Certificate (achieved upon appointment or within 12 weeks).
  • Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G).
    Desirable
  • NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship.

Knowledge, Training, and Experience

Essential

  • Experience interacting with the public or a desire to work in healthcare.
  • Basic understanding of routine work procedures, gained through induction and on-the-job training.
    Desirable
  • Previous experience in health or social care, especially within an Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic IT proficiency.

  • Good organizational skills.
