Requirements
- Transferable skills relevant to healthcare, equal to NVQ/QCF Level 2
- Knowledge of basic care duties and standards of practice
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and staff
- Calm and caring approach, even under pressure
- Flexible attitude to meet service needs
- Ability to handle patients safely using manual aids
- Desirable: Welsh language skills, NVQ Level 2 Award, or previous hospital care experience
Salary Details
This Band 2 role offers £24,833 per year under the Agenda for Change pay scheme.
About the Role
As a Health Care Support Worker on Clywedog Ward, the focus is on helping patients feel safe, cared for, and respected. This role means working closely with ward nurses to provide everyday care, from helping with nutrition and hydration to supporting mobility and personal care. It’s also about building trust with patients and their families through open communication and kindness. With guidance from registered nurses, the support worker develops real hands-on skills while making a visible impact on people’s lives every single day.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with patient care to promote comfort and dignity
- Support adequate nutrition and hydration, ensuring accurate monitoring
- Maintain a clean and safe ward environment to protect patient health
- Communicate with patients, relatives, and staff to build positive relationships
- Help move and transfer patients safely, supporting independence where possible
- Contribute to ward meetings and teamwork, sharing ideas to improve care
- Carry out duties under supervision, developing skills that support career growth
