Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience
  • Maths and English GCSEs (A–C / 4–9) or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Good communication skills across written, verbal, and IT-based interactions
  • Ability to work autonomously while remaining a strong team player
  • Commitment to learning and willingness to enhance clinical competencies
  • Full driving ability to travel across Plymouth, South Hams, and West Devon

Desirable:

  • Experience with venepuncture, ECG recording, and wound care

Salary Details

This role is graded under Agenda for Change Band 3, offering £24,937 to £26,598 a year pro-rata, with flexible hours up to 30 hours per week.

About the Role

As a Healthcare Assistant within the Acute Virtual Ward, you’ll support patients receiving hospital-level care at home. You’ll work closely with nurses and the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, evidence-based care that keeps patients comfortable and independent. Every day will bring new challenges—from performing observations and venepuncture to coordinating with clinicians on care planning.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys autonomy and thrives in a supportive, forward-thinking environment. You’ll make a direct impact on reducing hospital admissions and improving recovery outcomes, all while growing your clinical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver person-centred care in patients’ homes to promote independence and dignity
  • Support nurses and clinicians in assessing and monitoring patient health
  • Escalate concerns appropriately using the SBAR tool to maintain patient safety
  • Perform basic clinical tasks such as venepuncture, ECGs, wound care, and catheterisation
  • Contribute to care planning to reduce hospital stays and improve continuity of care
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records across digital and paper systems
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals to ensure a seamless service
