Requirements

  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience
  • Care Certificate or willingness to work towards it
  • At least one year of experience in a mental health or care setting
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Compassionate, approachable, and resilient nature
  • Confidence to engage with patients in both ward and community settings
  • Basic IT skills and ability to maintain accurate records

About the Role

The Healthcare Assistant will support patients in the Edgcumbe Unit, a specialist mental health service providing assessment and care for people experiencing conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. This role blends ward-based and community care, giving the chance to build trusting relationships with patients, families, and carers.

It’s more than daily support – it’s about helping people maintain dignity, independence, and wellbeing. By assisting trained nurses, you’ll contribute to both physical and psychological care. You’ll also provide mentorship to junior staff, becoming part of a team that makes a real difference to hospital experiences and recovery journeys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver personalised care that supports dignity and independence
