Job Summary

The Enhanced Perioperative Care Unit (EPOC) at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust is seeking dedicated Healthcare Support Workers / Healthcare Assistants. This is your opportunity to join an amazing nursing team where patient care is central to everything we do. You’ll work closely with patients undergoing post-operative surgical care, providing enhanced care for higher-risk elective surgery patients in a 7-bed unit. Our goal is to deliver the highest quality care and patient experience, supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes a ward-based therapy team.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Support the professional and personal development of patients and staff by working as part of a dynamic team.
  • Provide care in collaboration with the Emergency Department and the Same Day Medical Assessment Unit, with potential for rotational posts within the specialty.
  • Deliver high standards of patient care, ensuring that each patient’s experience is of the highest quality from admission through to recovery.
  • Actively engage in ongoing training and development, including access to Trainee Nurse Associate courses and various emergency medical specialty courses.
  • Work autonomously when necessary, and contribute to a positive team spirit that recognises and celebrates achievements.

Skills and Qualifications

  • GCSE (C or above) in Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • Care Certificate, or willingness to work towards obtaining it.
  • Previous NHS experience or experience in an acute hospital setting.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Willingness to pursue NVQ Level 2 in “Direct Care,” “Health,” or “Health and Social Care.”

Communication and Experience

  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Experience working under pressure and in high-demand environments.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks to ensure patient safety.
