About the Role
This role supports children and young people who are affected by parental substance use. It blends one to one work, group sessions and community outreach. The aim is to help young people feel seen, understood and protected. The work often involves guiding them through tough conversations, offering practical strategies and giving them a safe place to ask questions.
The job moves between schools, homes, community spots and partner services. They expect the practitioner to build links with teachers, social care, carers and youth workers. You’ll shape workshops with young people, not just for them, so the sessions feel relevant and grounded. There’s a strong focus on prevention, safeguarding and improving lifestyle outcomes.
The role matters because many young people hide what they face at home. Your work helps them stay engaged in school, feel more stable emotionally and access the right support at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver one to one support that helps young people feel safe and understood
- Run group sessions that build confidence and awareness among peers
- Provide educational talks across schools and youth settings to boost early prevention
- Create training for teachers, parents and carers to help them spot signs of harm
- Work with community partners to strengthen networks that support young people
- Complete assessments and care plans that guide each young person’s journey
- Produce clear reports that help schools and services understand a child’s needs
- Carry out outreach in local communities to understand concerns and respond early
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
A Disclosure and Barring Service check is required due to the nature of the role.
