Job Summary
The Health Informatics Department at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is seeking an experienced Developer to join its team. The role involves supporting and developing the Healthcare Evaluation Data (HED) platform, which provides analytical insights to decision-makers across the NHS. The successful candidate will contribute to designing, developing, and maintaining the HED system websites and other applications.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain web applications using .NET technologies and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Collaborate with business managers, analysts, web developers, and data scientists to deliver solutions that benefit the NHS.
- Provide support to clinical and non-clinical end users by responding to technical queries and creating bespoke analytical reports.
- Manage and improve the performance of internal and external application functions to meet national and local requirements.
- Line manage and mentor junior developers while working within agile sprints.
- Participate in a technical competency test at Yardley Court, Edgbaston, as part of the selection process.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a relevant postgraduate professional qualification, or equivalent experience.
Desirable:
- Further professional development certificates.
- Certification in Microsoft Office applications.
- Microsoft Certified in SQL Server.
Experience
Essential:
- Extensive experience in Transact SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and Database Design.
- Web development experience, including HTML, JavaScript, and ASP.NET C# (MVC, Web Forms, JavaScript).
- Use of Visual Studio for application development.
- Experience interfacing systems using XML, XSLT, JSON, or similar standards.
- Strong knowledge of data confidentiality and Data Protection Act compliance.
Desirable:
- Experience handling, analyzing, and manipulating large datasets.
- Experience managing workloads and delegating tasks.
- Knowledge of NHS Data Dictionary, clinical terminology, and health informatics policies.
