Requirements:

  • Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma, NVQ Level 4, Foundation degree, or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience
  • Detailed knowledge of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • In-depth understanding of Data Protection Act 2018, ICO Subject Access Code of Practice, and General Data Protection Regulations
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, carers, relatives, and legal professionals
  • Experience with specialist redaction software and request management systems

About the Role

As the Information Access Officer at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, you’ll be at the heart of managing sensitive information requests. This role is crucial in ensuring the Trust complies with data protection laws while providing efficient access to information for patients, families, and authorized parties.

You’ll be responsible for handling requests for information release, applying the Data Protection Act and ICO Code of Practice for Subject Access Requests. Your keen eye for detail will be essential in identifying misfiled information, considering potential harm from information release, and reviewing records to determine what should be shared or redacted.

This position requires someone who can balance legal requirements with compassionate service. You’ll be the first point of contact for information release enquiries, guiding people through the process while ensuring all legal and ethical standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day requests for information release, ensuring compliance with data protection laws
  • Act as the first point of contact for information release enquiries
  • Review and process requests, confirming their legal validity and ensuring proper consent
  • Extract information from Trust clinical systems and manage secure storage of documents
  • Identify and remove misfiled information, considering potential harm from information release
  • Maintain effective working relationships with consultants, nursing staff, and other departments
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation and ICO guidelines.
