Requirements

  • Degree in IT or equivalent certification with a strong track record of ongoing professional development
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate
  • Solid grasp of networking standards and best practices
  • Experience with virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V, XenServer)
  • Confident in managing security protocols aligned with Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large, complex digital environments
  • Skilled with SAN, NAS, DAS, and modern cloud services like IaaS or PaaS
  • Ability to travel between local sites when needed
  • Comfortable joining an on-call support rota for critical services
  • Welsh language skills are a bonus, not a requirement

Salary Details

The position offers a competitive salary between £37,898 and £45,637, depending on experience, with regular increments and progression in line with NHS pay frameworks.

About the Role

As an Infrastructure Engineer in their Data Centre Team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and upgrading the backbone of the Health Board’s digital operations. Whether it’s implementing secure, cloud-ready solutions or ensuring on-premise systems stay resilient, you’ll be part of a hands-on, solutions-driven group that’s vital to patient care delivery. This role leans heavily on real-world problem-solving and collaboration. You’ll work both onsite and remotely, adapting to new tech, solving outages fast, and contributing to long-term projects that modernise infrastructure. It’s high-impact work, and it matters every single day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead support for data centre infrastructure including file services, email, AD, and backup systems
  • Maintain and evolve cloud-based and traditional infrastructure platforms
  • Support virtualisation environments with best practice tools
  • Investigate and resolve complex digital service issues quickly
  • Help roll out new technologies that improve efficiency and service delivery
  • Ensure all systems meet Health Board cybersecurity and compliance standards
  • Collaborate across Digital Services teams to ensure end-to-end system resilience
