The IT Server Manager will oversee the management and security of physical and virtual server environments, ensuring compliance with governance requirements while supporting clinical and corporate teams. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in server infrastructure, Active Directory management, Office 365, and cloud solutions such as Microsoft Azure.

Key Responsibilities: Leading IT Server Operations

Managing the Trust’s IT Server infrastructure is a critical component of this role. The IT Server Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, ensuring system availability, and implementing best practices in cybersecurity.

Providing leadership and strategic direction to the IT Server Team is a fundamental responsibility. The postholder will ensure smooth operations across multiple sites, maintaining a high standard of IT service provision for clinical and corporate staff.

Ensuring system resilience and recovery capabilities is essential. The IT Server Manager will implement disaster recovery strategies, maintain backup solutions, and ensure business continuity across all IT systems.

Monitoring and mitigating cybersecurity threats will be a key focus. The postholder will lead efforts to enhance security protocols, assess risks, and implement measures to protect the Trust’s IT environment from cyber threats.

Collaborating with stakeholders and IT teams to develop and implement new technologies is an integral part of the role. The IT Server Manager will work closely with internal departments, suppliers, and external partners to introduce innovative solutions that improve service efficiency.

Specialist Expertise and Technical Responsibilities

As a technical expert, the IT Server Manager will be expected to:

  • Manage Physical and Virtual Server Environments: Maintain and optimize the Trust’s IT infrastructure, including server hardware, virtualization, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Lead Active Directory and Office 365 Administration: Oversee directory services, access controls, user management, and cloud integration.
  • Ensure IT Compliance and Governance: Maintain alignment with NHS policies, data protection regulations, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Implement and Monitor Cybersecurity Measures: Stay ahead of emerging cyber threats, apply security patches, and conduct risk assessments.
  • Support IT Project Development: Plan and execute IT infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.

  • Knowledge of Cybersecurity and Threat Mitigation: Extensive experience in securing IT networks, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing security best practices.
  • Disaster Recovery and System Resilience: Ability to develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies.
  • Strong Communication and Stakeholder Management Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with various teams and communicate technical concepts effectively.

Desirable Experience and Additional Skills

While not essential, the following qualifications and experiences would be advantageous:

  • Experience Working in an NHS or Healthcare Environment: Familiarity with NHS IT systems, governance structures, and compliance requirements.
  • Project Management Expertise: Ability to manage IT infrastructure projects, including budget oversight and resource allocation.
  • Service Desk and Customer Support Management: Experience leading IT service desks and improving customer service operations.
