Requirements

  • A veterinary degree eligible for registration with RCVS
  • Knowledge of national veterinary regulations and practices
  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Experience working with companion animals in a clinical setting
  • Ability to work collaboratively with veterinary students, nurses, and clients
  • Willingness to work shifts and cover colleagues’ absences

Salary Details

The role offers a competitive salary of £33,232 – £36,924 annually. It is a one-year, fixed-term internship, providing clinical experience for further training such as EBVS residencies or master’s programs.

About the Role

As a Junior Assistant Clinician, you will provide veterinary care to referred patients, working closely with senior clinicians. You will rotate between various specialties such as internal medicine, anaesthesia, oncology, and surgery, gaining hands-on experience and supporting student training. The role includes responsibility for out-of-hours primary care services, helping to enhance your clinical decision-making skills.

Throughout the year, you will engage in research projects, contribute to case rounds, and submit at least one professional publication. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to build a solid foundation for a veterinary career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing veterinary care under supervision
  • Rotate through clinical specialties, gaining exposure to various areas of care
  • Participate in case rounds, clinical research, and seminars
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold clinical standards
  • Teach and supervise undergraduate veterinary students
  • Respond to client inquiries and provide appropriate follow-up
