Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering scalable cloud solutions, ideally on Azure
  • Hands-on skills with Python, BASH, Terraform, GitHub
  • Strong background in DevOps and Infrastructure as Code practices
  • Comfortable leading and mentoring tech teams, contractors, and distributed collaborators
  • Great communicator with the ability to explain complex ideas in plain terms
  • Strategic thinker who can align technology with long-term NHS goals
  • Comfortable with managing technical budgets and project spend

Salary Details

Annual salary ranges between £70,387 to £80,465. Comes with opportunities to lead high-value infrastructure projects with national significance.

About the Role

This role isn’t about keeping systems running. It’s about building something transformative. As the **Lead Cloud Engineer**, you’ll design, maintain, and grow the cloud infrastructure for their secure data environment (SDE), a cornerstone of the **Barts Health Data Platform**. This platform powers cutting-edge research and personalised care through the **PharosAI** initiative, all while upholding tight NHS security standards.

You’ll work with world-class clinicians and researchers, creating secure, efficient tools that help them use sensitive health data safely and effectively. From integrating open-source solutions to leading contractor teams, your work will help drive the future of healthcare data science.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver public cloud infrastructure solutions that are secure, scalable, and compliant
  • Lead on cloud-based software deployment using DevOps best practices
  • Collaborate with researchers to customise secure environments for data analysis
  • Continuously evaluate and integrate open-source tools into the environment
  • Mentor technical teams and oversee contracted software delivery partners
  • Manage cloud costs within budget and report on efficiency improvements
