About the Role
This is no desk job. You’ll be stepping into police custody suites, working with people right at the crossroads of vulnerability and crisis. As a Liaison and Diversion Engagement Worker, you’ll offer calm guidance in moments of real distress. From adults to young people, every individual you meet has a story and a struggle. Your job? To listen, assess, and open the door to support that can shift the course of someone’s life.
They’re counting on you to build trusted relationships, especially with those who’ve experienced trauma, exclusion, or substance misuse. You won’t be alone — you’ll work alongside nurses and support professionals to guide individuals through the chaos and toward stability. It’s intense, yes. But it’s also work that changes lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet clients in police custody to identify vulnerabilities and needs
- Offer short-term 1:1 support and advice for issues like housing, mental health, debt
- Collaborate with clinical staff to shape care pathways and safe handovers
- Help service users connect with education, employment, and local support
- Build community links to improve access and reduce reoffending risks
- Support individuals with forensic, abusive, or traumatic backgrounds
- Handle complex cases with guidance from nurses and allied health professionals
