Job Summary

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Lived Experience Practitioner to join its Mental Health Liaison Service. This role aims to ensure that the voices and experiences of individuals with lived mental health experience are integrated into service design and delivery.

Candidates should have personal experience of an acute mental health crisis, preferably with support from a Mental Health Liaison Team or Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team. The role involves providing peer support, advocacy, and recovery assistance to individuals experiencing distress in an acute hospital setting.

This position offers career development opportunities, allowing candidates to start as a Band 3 Peer Support Worker and progress to a Band 4 Lived Experience Practitioner after gaining relevant skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work at Gloucester Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals supporting service users during admission and discharge.
  • Offer emotional, psychological, and practical support to individuals in mental health crisis.
  • Advocate for service users to ensure their voices and priorities are heard.
  • Promote a recovery-oriented environment within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Contribute to training and development programs.
  • Challenge mental health stigma and advocate for trauma-informed care.
  • Provide support and supervision to Peer Support Workers.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential:

  • Lived experience of acute mental health crisis.
  • Experience in providing compassionate support to people in distress.
  • Background in supportive and enabling roles.
Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • Understanding of lived experience and its role in recovery.
  • Ability to share personal recovery stories professionally.
  • Awareness of the importance of professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of recovery tools and community resources.
  • Understanding of mental health stigma and discrimination.

Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check

  • This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.

Certificate of Sponsorship

  • Applications from international candidates requiring a Skilled Worker visa sponsorship are welcome.
  • Candidates must present a criminal record certificate from any country they have lived in for 12+ months in the past 10 years.
