Requirements
- A 2:1 or above in Psychology that grants eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS
- Experience supporting clinical populations in healthcare or community settings
- Solid understanding of the psychosocial impact of cancer and related treatments
- Strong IT and data management skills including presentation tools and audit support
- A commitment to equality, reflective practice, and clear communication
- High levels of initiative, adaptability, and emotional intelligence

About the Role
This Macmillan Assistant Psychologist post isn’t your average support role. It’s an opportunity to become a key part of a dynamic Psycho-oncology team, contributing to a stepped care model that directly supports people facing cancer. From managing triage and patient records to collecting outcome measures and co-facilitating group sessions, the work is varied and rewarding. You’ll be encouraged to participate in research, audits, and education, helping shape how psychological services respond to cancer care across the Trust.
You’ll work alongside senior psychologists and be actively involved in improving how people experience psychological support within cancer and palliative care. Whether you’re collecting insights from patient surveys or contributing to service redesign, your input will count.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on clinical administration and data systems that support high-quality care
- Support triage and information gathering for new referrals to ensure smooth pathways
- Assist in group work, psychoeducation, and administering outcome measures under supervision
- Contribute to research, audit, and service development projects that drive better outcomes
- Create a psychologically informed environment that welcomes all service users
- Join a Trust-wide Psychology Services Network, collaborating beyond cancer care
