Requirements
- Registered Social Worker with Social Work England
- Relevant degree or diploma in social work
- Confident communicator with solid written skills
- Experienced in mental health settings and statutory services
- Understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983 and care coordination
- Team-oriented, but able to work independently when needed
- IT competent with accurate and timely record-keeping habits
- Respectful of diversity, anti-discriminatory, and safeguarding-aware

About the Role
This role sits at the heart of forensic mental health, where social workers play a key part in shaping recovery. The team supports those detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, helping bring a social care lens into a clinical setting. It’s a role that calls for real compassion, careful analysis, and a clear head when decisions impact liberty and public safety.
You’ll support adults in secure settings across Fromeside (81-bed medium secure) and Wickham (31-bed low secure) units at Blackberry Hill Hospital. Your voice matters in tribunals, hearings, and MAPPA panels. You’ll shape care plans, advocate for rights, and liaise across networks to ease transitions and safeguard futures.

Key Responsibilities
- Build recovery plans and represent service users in legal settings
- Balance rights and risks when working with vulnerable adults
- Join multidisciplinary teams to co-manage care delivery
- Draft high-quality reports, ensuring clarity and compliance
- Liaise across safeguarding, criminal justice, and social care systems
- Promote anti-oppressive practice and challenge stigma
- Mentor junior staff or students if suitably experienced
