Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine (mandatory)
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal)
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in red meat slaughter lines (training provided)
  • Strong understanding of hygiene, safety, and food industry standards
  • Valid driving license for travel to inspection sites
  • Commitment to upholding health, safety, and food hygiene

Salary Details

  • £29,300 to £35,300 annually
  • Day shifts: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
  • Initial contract for 6 months

About the Role

The Meat Hygiene Inspector is responsible for ensuring food safety by performing post-mortem inspections on carcasses and offal. This role also involves supporting the Official Veterinarian, ensuring slaughterhouses and cutting plants comply with food hygiene and animal welfare standards. Responsibilities include overseeing the disposal of unfit meat, writing reports on inspections, and staying up-to-date with hygiene regulations. The inspector will work as part of a team, helping ensure that previous recommendations are implemented.
