Requirements
- Diploma in Anatomical Pathology from RIPHH
- At least five years post-qualification mortuary experience
- Proven leadership and staff supervision experience
- Proficiency with mortuary techniques and use of laboratory information systems
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a compassionate approach
- Strong IT literacy and attention to detail in record-keeping
- Ability to liaise effectively with bereaved families, funeral directors, and healthcare professionals

Salary Details
This position is offered at Band 8a with a salary between £56,276 and £63,176 per year, reflecting experience and responsibility.
About the Role
This is a chance to shape mortuary services within one of London’s most respected hospitals. You’ll be leading a skilled team, ensuring every process is handled with dignity and precision. From overseeing post-mortem arrangements to maintaining compliance with legal and professional standards, your decisions will safeguard patients, support families, and guide staff. The role also puts you in close partnership with pathologists, coroners, bereavement services, and external agencies, making collaboration key. Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the mortuary to ensure safety, dignity, and compliance with legislation
- Lead and support mortuary staff through training, supervision, and clear guidance that builds confidence
- Oversee post-mortem processes, ensuring accuracy and respectful handling that reassures families and professionals
- Maintain facilities, equipment, and infection control standards to protect staff and service users
- Liaise with coroners, pathologists, bereavement services, and funeral directors to provide seamless service delivery
- Promote service improvements and innovations that raise the standard of patient and family care
