Requirements
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English at grade C/4 or above.
- Currently working towards or committed to completing Level 3 Anatomical Pathology Technology qualification.
- Willingness to undertake all on-the-job training with evidence of CPD.
- Strong IT literacy with basic Microsoft Office knowledge.
- Clear communication and effective time management skills.
- Positive approach to working in sensitive and clinical environments.
- Desirable: NHS or mortuary experience, AAPT registration, or knowledge of advanced mortuary techniques.

About the Role
This is an entry point into a rewarding mortuary career. You’ll enrol in the Level 3 Anatomical Pathology Technologist course while training under supervision to carry out mortuary and post-mortem duties. From assisting with routine and complex post-mortem procedures to supporting bereaved families and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, your role will truly matter.
The department provides a full analytical and diagnostic Histopathology service across the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw region. Mortuary services are at the heart of this, offering care and dignity to patients who have passed away. By joining this team, you’ll contribute not only to clinical diagnosis but also to the wider service that supports families and communities during some of their most difficult times.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the post-mortem process under supervision, ensuring accuracy and respect at every stage.
- Assist senior technologists and pathologists in diagnosing cause of death, directly contributing to public health understanding.
- Provide sensitive advice and reassurance to bereaved families and staff when needed.
- Keep up with training and coursework deadlines to progress in your qualification.
- Maintain health and safety standards, ensuring all procedures follow strict protocols.
- Collaborate with colleagues across different hospital sites to deliver consistent, high-quality care.
