Requirements
- BTEC ONC/City & Guilds in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Recognised EITB Apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Strong background in mechanical and electrical building services.
- Ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
- Confident communicator with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Flexible, reliable, and committed to maintaining high safety and service standards.
- Computer literate and confident using maintenance systems.
Salary Details
This role is offered at Band 5, with a salary between £31,049 and £37,796 per annum, plus enhancements for on-call duties, unsocial hours, and additional benefits under NHS-equivalent terms and conditions.
About the Role
As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson (Mechanical Bias), you’ll help keep hospital facilities safe and operational across Alnwick Infirmary, Berwick Infirmary, and Rothbury Community Hospital. You’ll maintain vital plant, equipment, and building systems that support both clinical and non-clinical services.
Your work directly impacts patient safety and comfort. You’ll carry out routine maintenance, diagnose faults, and perform essential repairs—ensuring every system operates efficiently. You’ll also participate in the on-call rota, responding to urgent technical issues and providing reassurance when it matters most.
This role suits someone who takes pride in hands-on technical work and wants to build a stable, meaningful career within a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair mechanical and electrical systems to ensure continuous hospital operations.
- Respond to faults and emergencies promptly to reduce downtime and risks.
- Carry out installations of new equipment and infrastructure as directed.
- Follow safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and visitors.
- Work collaboratively with Estates Officers and Supervisors to plan and prioritise maintenance work.
- Participate in the on-call rota, supporting 24-hour service continuity.
- Model inclusive leadership, encouraging teamwork and shared learning across departments.
