Job Summary

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust is seeking a Therapy Technician to join its inpatient therapy team at St. Michael’s Hospital, Hayle. This role involves working with adult elective orthopaedic patients across two inpatient wards and a pre-admission clinic (telephone-based). Duties include pre-operative Joint Schools and occasional home visits.

This is a part-time role requiring work three days per week (preferably Wednesday to Friday, though this is negotiable). The role also includes weekend rota participation, with time off in lieu provided.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of Therapy Services by supporting therapists in patient assessment and treatment.
  • Manage a delegated caseload, implementing treatment protocols and making appropriate adjustments.
  • Work independently within the bounds of the Therapy Technician role while reporting patient progress to therapists.
  • Conduct assessments using investigative and analytical skills to develop treatment plans.
  • Ensure effective time management and prioritisation of tasks.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Good general education up to GCSE or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level III, BTEC National Diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Health Care, Sports Science).

Desirable:

  • Evidence of recent study in areas such as Anatomy and Physiology (ITEC) or an Access to Occupational/Physiotherapy Therapy course.

Experience

Essential:

  • Significant experience in an acute healthcare setting.
  • Previous work as a Therapy Technician/Assistant.
  • Ability to manage an independent caseload.

Desirable:

  • Experience with post-operative bracing, gait education, and post-op exercise programs.

Skills

Essential:

  • Computer proficiency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with patients with impaired communication abilities.
