Requirements

  • Experience in a Health and Social Care setting
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a Health-related subject (or willingness to undertake apprenticeship)
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to work flexibly, quickly, and accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Care Certificate or willingness to undertake within 3 months of employment
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills, with a minimum of Level 2 in these areas

The Nursing & Rehab Assistant role offers a competitive salary ranging from £24,071 to £25,674 per annum, depending on the candidate’s experience. This salary is based on the Agenda for Change, Band 3.

About the Role
As a Nursing & Rehab Assistant at the Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre (YRSIC), you will play a pivotal role in a 32-bed unit, caring for patients with spinal cord injuries. This specialist centre, one of only 12 in the UK, provides expert rehabilitation to individuals who have suffered temporary or permanent spinal cord damage.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Offering holistic care to patients with spinal injuries, many of whom are admitted directly from trauma centers.
  • Supporting multidisciplinary team efforts, including nursing, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy.
  • Managing patient rehabilitation plans and working closely with patients to help them regain independence.
  • Delivering personalized care and support for re-admissions, surgeries, pressure ulcer repairs, and other continued care needs.
  • Participating in therapy assessments and providing detailed feedback on patients’ therapeutic progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene and nutritional needs
  • Assist in patient rehabilitation and therapy programs
  • Monitor and record patient conditions, including BP, pulse, and general well-being
  • Coordinate home visits, liaising with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborate on patient care plans
  • Provide support for Urological surgeries, rehabilitation, and pressure ulcer care
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a clean, safe, and supportive healthcare environment
