Requirements
- Qualified Optometrist MCOptom or FCOptom, registered with the General Optical Council
- At least 2 years’ hospital optometry experience post registration
- Skilled in paediatric refraction, indirect ophthalmoscopy, and OCT interpretation
- Experience in managing young children and complex eye conditions
- Empathy with child-centred care and strong communication skills
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Desirable: qualifications or study towards Paediatric Optometry, Independent Prescriber, Medical Retina, or Glaucoma
Salary Details
The salary ranges from £56,276 to £63,176 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
About the Role
As an Optometrist in the Ophthalmology team, you’ll be at the heart of delivering specialist care across clinics including corneal, retinal, neurophthalmology, and complex paediatric services. You’ll also play a key role in contact lens and low vision clinics, as well as contribute to pioneering research.
Your days will be varied: from providing advanced clinical support in uveitis and paediatric clinics, to guiding parents through sensitive discussions about their child’s treatment. You’ll also share knowledge through teaching and training, helping shape the next generation of eye care professionals. Every part of your role will directly impact a child’s health and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced optometric and ophthalmological support across multiple paediatric clinics
- Carry out complex refraction and specialist procedures to support accurate diagnoses
- Guide parents through sensitive conversations, offering reassurance and clarity
- Contribute to ongoing research and clinical trials to improve paediatric eye care
- Provide training and mentoring within the multi-disciplinary team
- Maintain precise records to ensure high-quality, safe care
