Requirements
- Personal lived experience of serious mental illness (SMI)
- Confident in sharing your recovery journey in a safe, supportive way
- Experience with group facilitation or providing emotional support
- Good knowledge of mental health services and recovery tools
- Understanding of co-production and trauma-informed care
- GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent
- Comfortable working flexibly across locations and roles
- Basic IT skills and willingness to learn NHS systems
- Calm under pressure and skilled at building trust quickly
- Able to support others in navigating local opportunities and services
Salary Details
This is a Band 4 NHS role with a salary range of £26,530 to £29,114, depending on experience and progression.
About the Role
This is more than a job—it’s a chance to turn your story into someone else’s turning point. As a Peer Recovery Worker, you’ll develop and run courses that promote recovery, self-care, and community connection. You’ll work side-by-side with volunteers and Experts by Experience to co-design enrolment plans and group sessions. Whether online or in a classroom, your sessions will give others tools to understand their mental health, reclaim their strengths, and move toward their goals. It’s not about giving advice—it’s about walking with people on their journey, showing what’s possible because you’ve lived it.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver courses that focus on wellbeing, resilience, and self-management
- Draw on lived experience to model hope and recovery for others
- Support enrolment planning that reflects each client’s goals and needs
- Promote physical and mental wellbeing through practical strategies
- Mentor volunteers and peers to build a strong recovery network
- Strengthen links with community services to open new opportunities
- Use creative approaches to build relationships and support transitions
- Encourage service user involvement in shaping support pathways
- Work flexibly to meet the changing needs of the team and service
