Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification
- GPHC registration as a Pharmacy Technician
- Strong grasp of dispensary procedures and ability to work under pressure
- Excellent communication skills, especially when advising patients
- Open to non-ACPT candidates willing to upskill and grow into the role
- Comfortable working across ward-based and inpatient/outpatient settings
- Reliable team player with solid numeracy and data entry skills
Salary Details
Starting salary is Band 4 for candidates without ACPT/MMT credentials, with Band 5 pay upon successful completion of required qualifications and in-house validations.
About the Role
This isn’t just a dispensing job. It’s a hands-on opportunity to shape the patient journey from ward to discharge. Based at West Middlesex University Hospital, you’ll work alongside experienced technicians and pharmacists to support safe, timely access to medications. You’ll get involved in medicines reconciliation, final accuracy checks, and counselling patients at crucial moments in their care.
There’s real variety here, from helping streamline discharge processes to troubleshooting robotic dispensers. Whether you’re managing stock or training newer staff, your role helps reduce wait times and improve outcomes. They’re especially keen to hear from candidates who can adapt quickly, work well in clinical spaces, and bring a caring yet precise approach to every shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver timely dispensing and distribution of medication for inpatients and outpatients
- Support accurate data entry using WellSky/JAC pharmacy systems
- Check and prepare medications including clinical trials and controlled drugs
- Offer medicines advice to patients and liaise with clinical staff on complex queries
- Assist in reception duties including prescription processing and charge handling
- Lead on robot maintenance and support workflow within the dispensary
- Conduct ward-based medicines management, including POD checks and discharge prep
- Support self-administration schemes and educate patients about their treatment plans
- Supervise junior staff and deputise for senior techs during absence
