Eligibility
To qualify as a prison officer, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements.
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment, including eyesight and hearing checks.
- Have been a UK resident for the last 3 years to work in high-security establishments.
- Ensure tattoos are not offensive, discriminatory, violent, or intimidating. Facial tattoos are generally not acceptable unless for cultural, religious, or medical reasons.

Pay
- 37 hours/week: £36,082 per year.
- 39 hours/week: £38,357 per year.
- 41 hours/week: £40,632 per year.
(Prison officers may have opportunities for paid overtime, and shift patterns will include evenings, weekends, and public holidays.)

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain security and discipline across the facility.
- Act as a mentor and role model for inmates.
- Collaborate with colleagues to manage day-to-day challenges.
- Follow a structured shift pattern while adapting to various operational needs.
Application & Selection Process
- Online Tests: Initial judgment, numerical, and task-based assessments.
- Assessment Centre: Evaluation of behaviors, strengths, and abilities required for the role.
- Medical and Fitness Test: Includes hearing, eyesight, and general health screening.
- Vetting: Enhanced Level 2 and Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC) for high-security establishments.
Applicants will be added to a merit list based on their scores, with offers made to the highest scorers as positions become available.
