Requirements
- Minimum 12 months direct clinical experience working with common mental health issues
- OR 3 years part-time voluntary experience with established charities like MIND or Samaritans
- Strong written communication skills for clear reports and patient documentation
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification (registered nurse or allied health professional accepted)
- OR H Level qualifications with at least 2 advanced level GCEs, BTEC, or NVQ levels 3-4
- IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL equivalent if English isn’t your first language

About the Role
This isn’t just another job, it’s your pathway into a rewarding mental health career that genuinely makes a difference. You’ll be joining their NHS Talking Therapies Service, where you’ll train to deliver low intensity psychological interventions that form the backbone of modern mental health care.
Working within a stepped care framework, you’ll support people aged 16 and over who are experiencing common mental health challenges like anxiety and depression. The role combines hands-on clinical practice with academic learning, giving you the perfect blend of theory and real-world application.
Your week will be thoughtfully structured with one day of university teaching at Newman University Birmingham, one day of self-directed study, and three days of clinical practice. Throughout this journey, you’ll receive continuous support from experienced professionals who are invested in your success.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Step 2 cognitive interventions that help patients develop coping strategies and resilience
- Conduct thorough assessments to understand each patient’s unique mental health needs
- Maintain detailed clinical records that support ongoing care and treatment planning
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care
- Engage in continuous professional development through supervision and reflection
- Support service delivery targets that demonstrate positive clinical outcomes for patients
- Participate in group interventions when appropriate for patient care
