Requirements

  • Degree in Biological Sciences or related subject
  • For nurses: registration on Part 1 (Adult) of the NMC register
  • Proven experience working in a clinical environment
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and flexible with strong attention to detail
  • Confident using IT systems such as Excel, Word, and teleconferencing tools
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), data protection, and patient confidentiality
  • Willingness to learn and complete competency-based training

About the Role

As a Research Assistant, Clinical Research Practitioner, or Research Nurse, you’ll support studies exploring how human tissue and blood samples can reveal new pathways for treating heart disease. You’ll screen surgical lists for eligible patients, obtain informed consent, and collect samples that help uncover the mechanisms behind cardiac fibrosis, immune responses in vascular disease, and heart failure.

Every sample you collect contributes to world-leading discoveries. You’ll liaise with surgeons and cardiologists, manage study data, and ensure every procedure meets ethical and regulatory standards. Working within the Oxford Centre for Magnetic Resonance Research, you’ll be part of a passionate team driving the next wave of cardiovascular breakthroughs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit and consent patients for cardiac and vascular research studies, ensuring a positive experience
  • Collect, process, and store tissue and blood samples safely under GCP and HTA standards
  • Coordinate with multiple investigators to meet study timelines and goals
  • Maintain accurate records, input data into secure systems, and assist in report preparation
  • Support multidisciplinary meetings and collaborate with researchers across departments
  • Promote a safe and compliant clinical and laboratory environment
  • Contribute to a culture of learning by identifying your own training and competency needs
