Requirements

  • 3 or more years of post-graduate training in Diabetes and Metabolic Medicine
  • Strong clinical and non-clinical skills aligned with research and diabetes care
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new appraisal systems and structured assessments
  • Clear, fluent communication in spoken and written English
  • IELTS score above 7.5 or OET grade above B
  • Confidence handling technical tasks related to diabetes care
  • Experience with audits or quality improvement work
  • A positive, learning-oriented mindset toward research participation

Salary Details

This role pays between 49,909 and 61,825 pounds annually, depending on experience and level of responsibility.

About the Role

This is more than just a clinical job. It’s a hybrid role split between hands-on diabetes care and impactful research participation, offering the best of both worlds for an ambitious early-career physician. Working side-by-side with senior academics, you’ll gain first-hand experience with trial protocols, patient assessments, and investigational techniques like muscle biopsies and exercise testing. The role also includes clinical duties in hospital diabetes services, meaning you’ll have meaningful contact with patients while also contributing to innovative study outcomes. The position sits within the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC), which leads pioneering work funded by NIHR, MRC, and industry backers. You’ll also play a part in national health programmes like DESMOND and EDEN. Every study you touch, every protocol you support, helps rewrite what’s possible in diabetes prevention and care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess participants for eligibility in line with specific research protocols
  • Obtain informed consent from study participants in a supportive manner
  • Conduct detailed medical assessments including biopsies and exercise tests
  • Monitor clinical data and respond to any medical emergencies
  • Support hospital-based diabetes care as part of a dynamic clinical team
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of new research projects
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams to ensure excellent participant care
