The Peace Corps Coverdell Fellowship program at the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health offers financial assistance to returning Peace Corps volunteers pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) or a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) degree. Fellows complete internships in underserved communities in the Tampa Bay Area while fulfilling the Peace Corps’ Third Goal: promoting a better understanding of other peoples among Americans.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Completion of Peace Corps Service, as demonstrated by the description of service (DOS)
- Admission to the College of Public Health via SOPHAS application
- Meeting admission requirements of MPH or MSPH programs as full-time students
- Participation in community-based focused internships
- Involvement with student organizations such as Peace Corps Ambassadors at USF
- Compliance with academic and program guidelines
- Fully online students are not eligible for this program.
Application Deadline:
Applicants must apply to the College of Public Health via SOPHAS by the application deadline for the Fall semester.
How to Apply:
- Apply to the College of Public Health via SOPHAS.
- Indicate desire to apply to the Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows Program and complete an additional essay in the SOPHAS application.
- Await notification of admission to the College of Public Health.
- Provide DOS, CV, and any additional documentation upon request.
- Await notification of Coverdell Application Status.
- If selected, applicants have one week to decide whether to accept or decline the Coverdell offer and communicate with the COPH Peace Corps Coordinator.
- Once accepted, Fellows receive a welcome packet from the Coordinator of the Coverdell Program.
