Job Summary
An opportunity is available to join the Portering and Security Team at Broomfield Hospital. The team is expanding to provide an efficient, high-quality service that enhances the experience of patients, visitors, and staff.
The position offers flexibility with a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, and both full-time and part-time options are available. Prior experience in portering or security roles within a hospital environment is advantageous but not mandatory, as comprehensive training and support are provided.
The role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with people or prefer active, hands-on tasks over desk-based work.
Main Duties of the Job
Responsibilities include transportation of patients, specimens, goods, blood products, medical gases, and equipment across the site to support clinical and non-clinical operations.
The role involves physical tasks such as:
- Transporting patients via wheelchairs, trolleys, or beds, both internally and externally.
- Responding to emergency calls in a calm and professional manner.
- Performing mortuary duties, including the respectful transfer of deceased patients from wards to the mortuary.
Experience in a service-oriented environment and strong communication skills are essential.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver an effective, timely delivery and collection service for clinical and non-clinical services.
- Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Assisting members of the public.
- Transferring patients and deceased individuals to the mortuary.
- Transporting specimens and samples.
- Moving gas cylinders and furniture.
- Attending security and fire alerts (training provided).

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- GCSE Grade D or equivalent experience.
Knowledge & Experience
- Customer service experience.
- Training in manual handling and health and safety.
Desirable: Previous work experience in a similar role.
Skills/Aptitudes
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role falls under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, requiring a Disclosure and Barring Service check for previous criminal convictions.
