Job Summary
An opportunity is available to join the security team at Northside House, Norwich, as a Unit Security Officer. This role supports individuals suffering from mental health illnesses. Relational Security is integral to ensuring the safety and recovery of service users (SU). It involves a comprehensive understanding of patients, staff, and the environment to provide appropriate responses and care. Professional, therapeutic, and purposeful relationships between staff and service users are essential to maintaining safety and effective support.

Job Description
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Providing security and safety during early and late shifts within Northside House and secure inpatient areas.
- Conducting physical security checks on a shift-by-shift basis.
- Responding to emergency situations within the Unit.
- Supporting the Security Lead in performance and governance management related to safety and security.
- Collaborating with ward leadership teams to ensure standards are audited, recorded, and addressed.
- Conducting environmental, procedural, and relational security checks.
- Assisting in environmental risk assessments and documenting issues related to risk and security in line with record-keeping practices.
- Providing cover in reception/control when necessary.
- Acting as the point of contact for security and safety in the absence of the Security Lead.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Essential: Care Certificate; evidence of training equivalent to NRVQ/VRQ 3, Diploma 3 in Health & Social Care, Apprenticeship Level 3 in Health & Social Care, or relevant experience.
- Desirable: Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation; First Aid Qualification.
Experience
- Essential: Experience in the care sector.
- Desirable: Experience in secure mental health settings or with PMA/restraint.
Skills
- Essential: Ability to work independently, strong communication and observation skills, and ability to motivate others on security matters.
- Desirable: Self-awareness and interest in service development.
Knowledge
- Essential: Understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Desirable: Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities.
Other Requirements
- Essential: Fitness to undertake PMA training, awareness of mental health issues, and understanding equality and diversity principles.
- Desirable: Ability to drive Trust vehicles and provide emotional support to staff following incidents through TRiM training.
