Job Summary

Social Security Scotland is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join its Chief Digital Office (CDO) team. This role is crucial in supporting the agency’s digital transformation by designing and implementing data pipelines and infrastructure to enable business intelligence and analytics.

As part of the Engineering & Cloud Services, Architecture, and Applications teams, the Senior Data Engineer will work on data flow automation, ETL processes, and data streaming to ensure smooth and efficient data management. This position plays a vital role in ensuring data accessibility, quality, and usability for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement data pipelines to connect operational, analytical, and business intelligence (BI) systems
  • Re-engineer manual data flows for automation and scalability
  • Develop and maintain data streaming systems
  • Write and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) scripts
  • Build accessible, structured, and high-quality datasets
  • Design, build, and test data products using multiple storage technologies
  • Perform data transformations and normalizations to improve usability
  • Write and maintain SQL and Python scripts to support data operations
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across various teams to ensure effective data integration
  • Stay updated on new technologies, frameworks, and best practices in data engineering
